FISE Costa Rica with Matt and Nicho
FROM NICHO:
FISE Costa Rica started the 2012 contest season off with a bang! I think I speak on behalf of everybody at the event that we witnessed the craziest BMX contest ever. Saturday night’s park finals were live in prime time on TV, and BMX history was made 3 times. Colton Satterfield landed the first ever 360 backflip tail whip, Pat Casey did a perfect double decade, and Daniel Sandoval pulled an incredible 720 double tail whip. Costa Rica was going nuts and got a ridiculous show in the first ever FISE in Latin America. For me it felt amazing to make finals after being off my bike for 5 1/2 months with a spleen injury. The contest was packed with so many incredible riders from all around the world, and everyone rode sick.
FROM MATT:
Here’s some photos from the contest and one I shot at this street spot we found. The schedule was pretty crazy so we didn’t have as much time to ride street as I hoped. The crew we were with was awesome and we all stayed at this hotel called Villa Dolce. FISE had shuttles pick us up and bring us to the event each morning and they even took us out on some tourist days to the beach and stuff. One of the days we went zip lining over the rain forest, that was pretty awesome.
The layout of the course was pretty stock, but it turned out to be really fun. The only major downfall was the wind, the dirt jumps were actually cancelled because of it. Practice on the park course was pretty hectic with the wind, locals sending themselves everywhere, and the fact it was a back and forth kind of layout. There were some pretty crazy collisions and close calls during practice.
The riding that went down in the contest was insane. Everyone was sending all there new tricks and killing the course, it was dope to be a part of all that. I didn’t make the finals but with the riding that went down I wasn’t too bummed. I definitely had an awesome trip and can’t thank DB enough for getting me out there! Thanks again!
Flip from Albe’s shot the riding photos and there’s one of Nicholi in there too
