Nate Reports in on Dew Touring and Racing for 20 Years

This summer has been so much fun. I went to the first stop of the Dew Tour to test my skills and wound up makin’ the whole thing, as well as a couple of finals. Orlando was the final stop last week. Teammate Diogo got hurt in the final seconds of his 2nd run in the park qualifying which put him out of the whole dirt contest. Being the only other DB rider, on tour, I had to hold it down. I had a pretty good first run in prelims, scoring a 90.33. I had a hard crash in my 2nd run nearly knocking myself out. I sat and watched my first run score hang in there to qualify 9th and put me in the finals. Unlike all the other stops on tour, dirt prelims and finals were all in one day. I only had an hour and a half to rest for finals. I got some food and sat around with a bag of ice on my head, I was good to go. Finals were about to start, we were taking our final warm up laps; I had some good stuff in mind. I started out my first run with a flip down the drop in, big frontflip on the first set, 360 turndown set 2, 360 the step up, turndown to x-up the long and low, to a big superman to late whip the last set. I was the first rider to drop in, had a solid run, and the judges gave me a good score for it. I switched things up in my 2nd run with a 360 down the drop in, flip x-up the first set, frontflip set 2, turndown to x-up the step up, flip the long and low, to another big superman to whip on the last. The judges liked it and gave me another score in the 90′s. My last run was similar to the first, but Diogo talked me into doin’ a turndown flip on the last set. I left my finger on the lever, bad idea. The brakes pulled and I couldn’t rotate my cranks for the turndown. I was kicked out upside down and came in for a big sprocket case. I left with 7th place for the day and 11th overall for the season. I’m stoked on that!

I went back home to Vegas for a week. We filmed some stuff with Pastrana and the rest of the Nitro Circus crew in Lavin’s backyard. It was pretty wild. I had to do some frontflips with a big helmet cam on. Then we had a session the next day with me, Cam White, and TJ. TJ just left for New Zealand for the next MTV show and Cam went back to Australia for the winter.

Now I’m back on the race bike, gettin’ my legs ready for the ABA Grands over thanksgiving weekend. It’s a whole lot different than jumping, but this being my 20th year racing; I can be back in the game in no time.

Plus, my Reactor is fast; I’ll just hang on and let it do the work!
